Over the last few months everyone has weighed in on the question of “Why Don’t Teens Tweet” — except, it would appear, teens. We recently ran a survey of 10,000+ US teens aged 13 – 17 to see if we could add anything new to the question. As it turns out, the question itself is flawed.
Yep, I agree. I work in a school with 15-18 year olds. None of them use Twitter because a) it’s stupid and b) they are already on Facebook and My Space. They cite “it’s stupid” as being “a fad”, “lame name”, “something that geeks use” and “it’s not cool”. Hate to say it Twitter, but you’re not that cool. I joined Twitter 5 days ago to see what the fuss was about. I am 38. I don’t think I will come back to Twitter because you cannot see at first glance what it’s all about, and you have to work hard to find somebody to follow. It’s not as easy intuitive as Facebook or My Space – To teens, it’s just like hard work and that’s also what it looks like to me.
